For over 20 years, Shamrockin’ In Ghent has been a tradition in the historical Ghent section of Norfolk. Originally called Greening of Ghent Hope House Foundation took it over several years ago and the location moved to Colley Avenue. This annual St. Patrick’s Day event shuts down Colley Avenue between Shirley Avenue and Gates Avenue in Ghent and continues to draw attendees from all over Hampton Roads in the thousands. Always held the Friday before St. Patrick’s Day in March. There will be live bands and area restaurants, which feature Irish fare. Hope House Foundation expects large crowds based on the more than 4,000 in attendance recorded over the years.
100% of the proceeds from Shamrockin’ In Ghent support the programs of Hope House Foundation, a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization providing supported services to over 120 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Hampton Roads area. Hope House is committed to building an inclusive community, and events—like Shamrockin’ In Ghent—help raise funds for the individuals supported by Hope House to live independent lives of their own choosing and in their own homes within the community.
