GeneralWhere are you located? Where can I park? Can you give me directions?We are located at 801 Boush Street, Suite 302, Norfolk, VA 23510, at the corner of Boush Street and Olney Road. You may park in any one-hour space in the parking lot in front of the building. For driving directions from GoogleMaps, click here. What services do you provide?Hope House provides individualized, supported living services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, who have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation. We serve people in their own homes and help them live independently within the community. I am looking for services for myself or someone else. Who should I call?Please call (757) 625-6161 and ask for Dana Lloyd, QA & Admissions Coordinator. Do you provide emergency services?We do not provide emergency services. Please contact the United Way of South Hampton Roads at (757) 853-8500. They may be able to help. What kind of donations do you accept? Will you pick up my donations?We accept monetary donations by cash or check. You can also donate online with your credit card. In addition, the Hope House Thrift Shop accepts donations of clothing and various household items. The Thrift Shop will pick up donations of large items, such as furniture. I’m interested in volunteering / I need / my child needs to do community service for court.We have a variety of volunteer opportunities, from working with people supported by Hope House, to helping with events or at our Thrift Shop. In addition, our Thrift Shop accepts community service volunteers, provided your charge was not related to theft or violence. Stockley Gardens Arts Festival (SGAF)Can you send me an application for SGAF?Applications for the Stockley Gardens Spring Arts Festival are available online or by mail beginning January 1st, and are due the first week of February. Applications for the Stockley Gardens Fall Arts Festival are available the last week of June, and are due the last week of July. To be put on our mailing list, please contact Elena Montello Berry, or download an application and mail it to us at: Stockley Gardens Arts Festival When is SGAF?The Stockley Gardens Spring Arts Festival is the 3rd full weekend of May, and the Stockley Gardens Fall Arts Festival is the 3rd full weekend of October.
EmploymentWhat qualifications do I need to work at Hope House?A high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and your own vehicle with current insurance. You must be 18 years old, and you must be kind, reliable, and dependable. How do I apply?Please download the application and print it out. You can then fax it to (757) 625-7775 or mail it to us at: Hope House Foundation Or you can simply come by our office anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. What are the basic job duties?You’ll help the people we support with any number of tasks, including, but not limited to: assistance with laundry, personal hygiene, budgeting, and grocery shopping, community integration, daily life skills, socialization, home management, medication management, and family relations. How long does the application process take?Please allow two weeks for your application to be screened and an interview to be scheduled. After the interview, expect to wait two weeks while we check your references and complete the paperwork. Once you’ve been hired, you will participate in orientation and training that will help prepare you for the job. Do you offer training?We offer training in CPR, first aid, behavioral support, understanding disabilities, and medication management, as well as a thorough overview of our agency mission and philosophy. Do you provide services in my area?Hope House currently only provides services in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia. If you need information about services where you live try contacting your local Community Services Board, local chapters of The Arc or Department of Social Services. How can I access your services for myself or someone I know?Hope House is a Medicaid Waiver Provider, meaning that we accept federal funds designed to help people live independently in the community as payment for our services. While a small handful of people are able to pay out of pocket for their services, most people will need to meet the qualifications set forth by the state to receive Waiver funding.
